Cancer affects nearly every family and community across Louisiana. While advances in screening, diagnosis, and treatment have improved outcomes, many patients stillf ace significant barriers throughout their cancer journey. These challenges include delays in diagnosis, difficulty navigating complex treatment plans, managing side effects, accessing supportive services, and overcoming transportation, financial, and geographic barriers to care. These issues are often amplified in rural and underserved communities, where access to oncology specialists and support resources may be limited.

At the same time, emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, digital health tools, remote monitoring, and predictive analytics present new opportunities to improve the cancer care experience and outcomes for patients, caregivers, and healthcare providers.

Your challenge: Design an innovative solution that improves the cancer care journey for patients and caregivers, from diagnosis through treatment, survivorship, and supportive care.

Potential solution areas include:

  • AI-powered patient naviation tools that help patients understand their diagnosis, coordinate appointments, access resources, and stay engaged throughout treatment.
  • Predictive analytics and remote monitoring solutions that identify patients at risks for complications, treatment interruptions, or hospitalization and enable earlier intervention.
  • Digital platforms that connect patients, caregivers, and care teams to improve communication, care coordination, and shared decision-making.
  • Solutions that improve access to cancer care in rural and underserved communities, including telehealth, virtual support services, and transportation assistance technologies.
  • AI-enabled solutions that reduce administrative burden on oncology care teams, allowing clinicans to spend more time on focused patient care.
